Hey Folks,
A few things at mid-season to keep in mind...
1. summer league is about the spirit of the game, teaching, making sure everyone gets touches and plays a proportional amount of points. While I compel teams to play hard and try to win, the ultimate way to do this is as a team with class. not taking subs, dominating the disc, throwing zone on folks that don't even know what a zone is not the most direct route to the ultimate truth.
2. We are promoting a league for players 14 & older. What we bring to field and display to the general public can be misinterpreted and in fact be detrimental to our overall goals. Despite being a strong advocate of on the field revelry, we want our sport to be youthful and be endorsed by parents. so just keep that in mind and also feel free to celebrate life within a sphere of influence that is appropriate to our goals ~ which include playing at SIT for awhile.
3. If there is lightening, we should not be playing. sometimes it takes a bunch of folks in their mid-thirties with plenty of experience around the dangers of open fields to really drive this one home. It's dangerous and not worth it. Speak up - group think is a dangerous thing.
4. I will soon have a most wanted list. In order to be fair, even though its a pain in my ass, I will collect and sign-up all who come to play. Until I compile that list I am not going to hunt everyone down but once I do compile that list I will go very public with the names of the folks that have dodged the registration process. We need a complete and stable league in order for us to be entrenched for the future.
5. We have paid Alan back for the money he laid for fields. Many people did not contribute to that effort. Once again, most people knew we were collecting and neglected the process. The good part is that those same people who didn't pay Alan will help pay for our end of the year BBQ. So the hat will be passed again and we are keeping track even though I hate it and don't do it very well.
Stay true Ultimate players of southern Vermont & take the time to congratulate our Compass School kids for bringing home the first ever VT High School State Championships,
Play hard, play fair and play for the future,
d
